In a SURPRISE move Tim Morgan, announced that he will be throwing his hat in the ring to run at-large for the CMS School Board. On a hot day at the government center, in front of family members and press, Mr. Morgan announced that he will be entering campaign mode. This is the year that At-Large CMS Board Members are elected.
Mr. Morgan is currently the District 6 Representative on the CMS School Board. Morgan did talk about the lack of leadership following the resignation of Dr. Peter Gorman. Hugh Hattabaugh will fill the interim superintendent role. The vacancy at the top and elections for three at-large school board members will create a substantial change in how CMS will behave. Only one incumbent at-large CMS board member has stated that she will run this year. The other two at-large members are not running.
Mr. Morgan stated that CMS is at a crossroads. He commented that the school board will soon need to decide if they want to continue to move forward with the positive changes made by Dr. Gorman.
Morgan’s priorities are effective schools, efficient resources and experienced leadership. Mr. Morgan did stress that he will not change his priorities as a board member if he wins or looses this election. He said he is very focused on winning this election.
Mr. Morgan is has lived in Charlotte for over thirty years. He now lives in District 6 but is familiar with all of Charlotte. He has a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Appalachian State and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He has worked as a lobbyist for REBIC. Morgan has also worked in the past for York County, South Carolina, Lincoln County and Gaston County, North Carolina. He is an active Sunday School Teacher and Boy Scout Master in South Charlotte. For the past 18 months he has been on the CMS School Board as the District 6 Representative.
